At Broll we’ve always believed that our greatest potential for expansion lies within Africa, especially assisting our clients in developing their business interests throughout the continent. We’re involved in a significant number of shopping centre development, leasing and management projects in a growing number of African countries including Nigeria, Tanzania, Namibia, Botswana, Ghana and Malawi. In November 2006 Broll opened Tanzania's first fully enclosed, air-conditioned shopping centre.

The Mlimani City Mall is the first phase of a larger project that includes a residential component of 55 apartments, a value centre of about 11 000m² and a 13 000m² office park. In addition to the Palms Centre, which opened in Nigeria in April 2006, we’re also responsible for the leasing of the 25 000m² Accra Mall in Ghana. In all three instances, the developments have been the first of their kind in markets that are rapidly growing in affluence. Perhaps our most audacious venture is the development of the massive Tinapa business-tourism resort near the southern Nigerian town of Calabar. Tinapa is described as a super-oasis and free zone, set to become the trading hub of West Africa. It’s no surprise that our non-South African property portfolio accounts for almost a third of its R35 billion under management. This is a clear indicator of the seriousness of our Africa ambitions.
