Durban North area boarders Durban CBD area from the Umgeni River to Ohlanga River and consists of main industrial areas which include Briardene, Red Hill and Glen Anil. Its residential suburbs include Glen Anil, Glen Ashley, Glen Hills, Virginia, Avoca, Kenville, Sea Cow Lake, Durban North, La Lucia, with commercial properties mainly being located in the La Lucia Ridge, Umhlanga Rocks, Umhlanga Ridge, Red Hill and Umgeni Park areas. Chris Hani Road (M4 freeway) is the main industrial arterial in Durban North, adjacent to Briardene and Glen Anil industrial areas.

From this location, Durban CBD can be accessed via the M4 and N2 freeways while the King Shaka International Airport is a mere 20 minute drive.
